The dba_tab_partitions view gives detailed information on partitioned tables.
SQL>select table_name,partition_name,subpartition_count from dba_tab_partitions;
What is splitting a partition?
Splitting a partition takes the data in the existing partition and distributes it between two partitions.SPLIT PARTITION clause is used to achieve it.
SQL>alter table table-name split partition partition-name at(column-value) into (partition partition-name1,partition-name2);
What is merging a partition?
Merging a partition combines the contents of two adjacent partitions.We use MERGE PARTITIONS command to achieve this.
SQL>alter table tab-name merge partitions par1,par2 into partition par-merged;
